Reconditioned spare parts

It is often thought that a reconditioned part will not last as long as a new one. This may be the case, especially where there has been significant wear, but it is not always the case.

For example, crankshafts tend to become less likely to fail as they get older. Likewise when the seat of the valve cage is replaced and the body of the valve cage is coated with a protective coating, the life of the cage will be as good as new. Cylinder heads can be rebuilt by a fusion process using the same materials and the original casting restoring the casting to its original condition. Indeed, new cast components are often repaired by this same process if there has been some porosity or cracking and then sold by the engine builder as a new component!

Lincoln Diesels has more than 40 years experience in reconditioning diesel engine components. Such components can save our customers very considerable amounts of money. Our workshops recondition many major items such as:

  • Cylinder heads
  • Connecting rods
  • Crankshafts
  • Pistons
  • Fuel injection equipment

Stringent incoming inspection procedures establish the scope and cost of work.  This is then reported to the customer who decides whether to proceed with the repair or not. On completion of the works all critical dimensions are recorded, pressure tests, if relevant, carried out, and class approval obtained if requested by the customer.

Where vessels are calling regularly at UK ports, we can store the reconditioned parts until the vessel next arrives. Alternatively we can offer an exchange service on items which we have in stock.

Refurbishing major components of older engines can achieve worthwhile returns in extending the working lifespan and increasing operating efficiency. Reconditioning of spare parts including is efficiently organised in our well equipped workshop facilities and controlled by stringent inspection, test and approval schedules.
